Dear Hearts and Gentle People
I really love Joburg and in my new show I sing an ode to the City of Gold titled “Jy’s ‘n waterskeiding, Jozi!”. There are very many reasons why I love this city and one of them is the weather, the wonderful sunny winters in particular. Now what is this shit with the Cape Town winter weather that we have been exposed to for the last two weeks? The tumble dryer in our establishment has been working around the clock for the first time in its very long idle life. This is NOT funny anymore. Anybody that had any doubts about climate change and global warming and all the other scary stories must surely be singing different tunes now. I thought I was terribly clever for ordering my fire wood before the Easter weekend and that it would last the entire winter. Ha! I have to order again and now all the wood is going to be wet. Aaaarrrgghhh! Luckily we have so many exciting things happening at Zietsies in May that my attention can be diverted from the kak weather!
Firstly I am happy and terribly proud to be able to announce that the recordings that Janine and I made in August 2009 of my two old shows, Twee van die Beste and Kaalgestroop is now available on a brand new double CD. You can either pick up your copy at your next visit to Zietsies or you can send me a mail to order. Eerskomende Vrydagaand 7 Mei doen ek en Janine ons nuwe show Op ‘n ligter noot... by die Centurionteater. Besprekings kan by die teater of by Computicket gemaak word. Die CD sal ook daar beskikbaar wees.
Sunday 9 May is Mother’s Day and I have one or two table still free for Kos en Konsert. Janine and I will be konserting.
Marieta van der Vyver kom by Zietsies bly vir ‘n paar dae met die bekendstelling van haar nuwe boek, Dis koue kos, skat en op Dinsdagaand 18 Mei eet sy in Die GlasKas. Dit is vir my ‘n geweldige eer en plesier om KultuurKlublede te nooi om saam met haar te kom eet en kuier. Die boek sal ook hier beskikbaar wees en as jy mooi vra sal sy dit teken ook! Ete is R 300 pp waarvan R 100 na die KultuurKlubrekening toe sal gaan.
Everybody that has ever admired Toni Bico’s painting with the small Mickey Mouse in my lounge should be very happy to hear that Toni will be exhibiting in The Glass Cage with the official opening on Friday 21 May. Join us for a glass of something (detail to follow) and some snacks before you hit the town for your Friday night jol. Commission from the exhibition will be going to The Club’s coffers.
